We have completed our first climate report in 2023. You can download the climate report and read more about our climate efforts.

I will be completely honest and say that the main reason we produce a climate account long before we are required to is to avoid suddenly being forced to do it at a time that suits us badly.
The other reason is that I had become aware it was actually possible to produce our climate account for under 10,000 kroner a year.
We therefore decided to produce a climate account for 2023 alongside our ordinary accounts.
First of all, it came as quite a surprise that our small software company emitted around 68 tonnes of CO2 in 2023.
I had no preconception of how much we emitted, but the thought that our small company can spare the environment almost 7 tonnes of CO2 if we can reduce our emissions by 10% is certainly interesting.
Secondly, I find it very motivating, in terms of making an effort for the environment in the company, that we now have a tool making it easy for us to measure what difference our effort makes.
It is actually very simple. I had come across a new, smaller Danish company called Verarca.
They have developed a software solution that integrates with our finance system (e-conomic) and uses all our expense records to categorise and calculate our emissions.
Setting up the connection between e-conomic and Verarca was fairly simple, and there was good support from Verarca.
After the system had automatically calculated across all our records, we then paid Verarca to review a number of records where a manual check was necessary.
There were also a few other costs – for example calculating fuel consumption for the private cars that had been paid mileage allowance – which we discussed with Verarca.
So in total we have spent under 10,000 kroner and around 10 of our own hours on the entire 2023 climate account – and will probably spend about the same over the next couple of years.
When our larger customers before long start asking us to document how much CO2 their purchases from us generate, we will be ready to answer!
So yes, we could probably have waited a couple of years and saved the 10,000 kroner a year. But now we are ready – and we have become more motivated to do something ourselves to reduce our emissions.
